11 dead in Aurora due to 'Violeta'--NDCC

ELEVEN people were confirmed dead due to flash floods in Aurora province caused by tropical storm "Violeta," the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said Tuesday.

Ten of the deaths were from the municipality of Dingalan while one was reported in the municipality of San Luis, an NDCC report said.

Three people are reported dead in the town of Baler but this cannot be confirmed since their bodies have not been recovered, the NDCC said.

The military's Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Philippine Air Force are conducting rescue operations, the NDCC said.

The highway connecting Bongabong town in Nueva Ecija province to Baler is impassable to vehicles due to floods, the NDCC said.

Packing winds of 45 kilometers per hour, "Violeta" was spotted 110 kilometers west northwest of Dagupan City in Pangasinan province at 8 a.m. It is forecast to pass through Central Luzon.
